There are no strict criteria when choosing pots. There are only two parameters worth noting: the size of the planter and the material from which it is made.
The size of the pots depends only on the size of the container, directly into which the houseplant is planted. In order to choose a suitable planter, before buying, use a ruler to determine the height, diameter of the lower and upper rings of the flower pot, and then add 1-2 cm to these measurements in each dimension. The resulting figures will be the size of the pots you need.
As for the materials from which the pots are made, here you can focus on their utilitarian properties and to your taste. So, for example, plastic planters are light and durable, and glass or ceramic planters are heavy and fragile.
